The Idea

An artist presents himself not only as a unique, individual personality but also as an integral part of his mental, intellectual and spiritual environment.
Putting together a program in such a large concert venue is not something that can be left up to just one person. A truly intelligent way to assure that the offerings exhibit a healthy diversity has been to invite input from the artists themselves.
Composer Christian Muthspiel got things started in 1999-2001. He was succeeded by Wim van Zutphen (2001-2003). Christoph Cech was the Brucknerhaus’ artist in residence during the 2003-04 season.
