Book.Prize

Since 1999, the Cultural Division of the Chamber of Labor of the Province of Upper Austria and Brucknerhaus Linz have endowed a prize for literature.
The Book.Prize, which includes a cash stipend of 10,000 euros, is awarded annually to a book that displays literary excellence in dealing critically with the social reality of our time, with the social conditions under which people live and work (or are no longer able to work), with processes of social change as well as the political and ethical questions raised by them.
The Book.Prize awarded by the Chamber of Labor and the Brucknerhaus is meant to encourage authors to confront these issues. Thus, the prize is a contribution not only to the advancement of literature but to the sociopolitical discourse as well.

Passion 2010

The Passion of Christ is the theme of this annual pre-Easter series of concerts produced by the Brucknerhaus in cooperation with Musica Sacra. Virtuoso instrumental and vocal compositions infuse the ecclesiastical narrative with drama and emotional intensity. Performances by Voices, a vocal sextet under the direction of Josef Habringer, Nova, a vocal ensemble under the direction of Colin Mason, and the Bruckner Orchester Linz perform lamentations and requiems of the Baroque in the Brucknerhaus, the Minorite Church and St. Martin’s Church.

Brass Festival Linz 2010

Brass Festival Linz is held every two years in the Brucknerhaus and at other venues around town. High-energy brass ensembles present brass musical artistry on the highest level, brass without borders featuring the finest in brass band music performed by dynamic professional formations and up-and-coming young talent.

This year, the European Brass Band Championship and the European Competition for Brass and Percussion Instruments will be held from April 25 to May 2, 2010 in Linz.

This is a conclave of the best & brightest—the crème de la crème of European brass bands are coming together to show what they’ve got. Even though brass band music doesn’t have all that long a tradition in Austria, the EBBA–European Brass Band Association has selected Upper Austria as the site of their championship. This is doubtlessly a tip of the hat to Brass Band OÖ, a local group that’s made quite a name for itself internationally in recent years.
