Traditional dances

Three important female composers from three countries with three very different approaches to national musical traditions are the focus of the concert that the renowned US-American conductor Eugene Tzigane brings to the stage of the Great Hall in the Brucknerhaus Linz with the Prague Symphony Orchestra and the exceptional French pianist Lucas Debargue. The Czech composer Vítězslava Kaprálová, a pupil of her famous compatriot Bohuslav Martinů, interweaves folk songs and dances of her homeland with a modern tonal language strongly influenced by Igor Stravinsky's neoclassicism in her Suita Rustica. The Polish Grażyna Bacewicz quoted Polish folk songs in her piano concerto written for the 100th anniversary of Frédéric Chopin's death and took up a traditional Oberek dance in the furious finale. Amy Beach, on the other hand, was inspired by Antonín Dvořák's contemporaneous exploration of American music, and explored English, Irish and Scottish folk melodies in her Symphony in E minor, entitled Gaelic and dedicated to Bruckner student Emil Paur, the first symphony ever composed and published by a US woman.
